Sparkling Across America: Kentucky

Grace Wainwright is a self-declared awkward turtle and the brains behind A Southern Drawl. A sorority girl with her own sense of style, we loved hearing what Grace had to say about fall trends and Kentucky style! There’s more to the southern states than a love for monograms and pearls. Read on to (virtually) venture into the Bluegrass State as we sparkle across America!

Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you begin blogging?

I’m a senior at the University of Louisville and a proud Chi Omega.  I began blogging simply as a hobby to share my outfits with a nonexistent crowd of people.  It has allowed my personal style to grow, and to be honest, I’ve tried some trends that were both good and bad.  I’m passionate about all things stylish, nerdy, and delicious. OH! And all things awkward….obviously.

Describe your style in 3 words.

Feminine, classic, yet unpredictable.

What’s your go-to fall accessory?

Definitely a scarf.  I have way too many scarves for my own good.  It’s an addiction, and I always relapse in the fall.

What’s your favorite thing about living in Kentucky?

Going to horse races… go baby go!  Can’t promise ya that I actually watch the races though.

Horse Racing at Track

What is the hottest upcoming fall style trend you’re noticing?

The Peter Pan collar sweaters.  I have my eye on a few from J. Crew! I casually stalk my prey before purchasing.

Are there any regional trends you notice that aren’t really present in other parts of the country?

Tough question.  I want to say the metallic heel…but now that I think about it, it may just be me that is iffy about the metallic heel.  I would need a pep talk before wearing those suckers.

Is it hard staying fashionable on a college student budget?

YES.  I’ve learned to pick and choose carefully.  I may splurge on a quality piece here and there, but it’s worth it to me.  Unfortunately, I have expensive taste. So most of the time, I’ll just stroke the expensive item and slowly depart as someone plays a tiny violin in the background.

Does being a member of a sorority affect your style?

Surprisingly no.  It’s nice to get inspiration from a group of 100+ girls, but I usually stick to my gut about what I want to wear.  Usually, I’m running late and throw on a quick outfit.  Those are the best kinds of outfits to me, though.  They’re unexpected (almost as unexpected as the words that come out of my mouth most of the time).

What is your favorite piece of jewelry you own and why?

It would have to be my gold Michael Kors watch.  It goes with everything, and I’m a gold (not silver) gal.  Sometimes I forget I have it on and ask around wondering what time it is.  Typical.

What is your favorite piece from this fall?

The gold vermeil sideways wishbone necklace! I saw a wishbone necklace the other day and made a mental note of how badly I wanted it.  The fact that it’s a SIDEWAYS wishbone also made me giddy.

Love Grace’s style as much as we do? Be sure to show her some love on her blog!
