Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you begin blogging? Minnesota-Rachel

I really became interested in fashion when I was a senior in high school. I started to enjoy planning outfits and looked forward to reading my favorite fashion magazine, Lucky. Throughout college, my love for fashion grew even more. I used to take study breaks in the basement of the library browsing through old issues of Vogue, and after I studied abroad in England/Wales and traveled throughout Europe, I became completely obsessed with fashion. I was enamored by how nicely people dressed in Europe, and I wanted to challenge myself to put more time and effort into what I wore every day. After college, I felt like I was limited in my creativity at work, so I wanted to start something where I could channel my creativity through two of my passions: writing and fashion. I was going to look into writing some pieces for local magazines or newspapers, but my boyfriend suggested I start a blog. That night, we sat down and worked out all the details and bought the URL rachelslookbook.com. Everything from there has been a learning experience, and I absolutely love being a part of the blogging community.

Describe your style in 3 words.

Feminine, Classic, Fun

Where do you get your style inspiration?

It is crazy how many options there are for me to find style inspirations these days, but I still rely heavily on fashion magazines like Lucky and Vogue to find inspiration. I am also obsessed with fashion blogs, and browse several on a daily basis to get inspiration. Aside from that, I try to gather inspiration from people I see out and about and when I travel to new places.

What is your favorite thing about living in Minnesota?

I don’t think anything beats Minnesota in the summer… the weather is perfect and there are tons of lakes to enjoy summer activities. It is why we all stay here and suffer through winter! Also, have you heard the saying “Minnesota nice?” People around here are very friendly!

Do you notice any regional trends that may not be as noticeable in other regions?

I don’t think there are necessarily any regional trends here. I think any major trends seen on the runways during fashion week are interpreted here to fit the lifestyle and weather. I have seen a lot of people doing the sporty look recently, and I think it is because it is comfortable and functional.  When the weather changes from being below zero one day to over 30? the next, Midwesterners have to adapt and consider functionality when getting dressed.

How would you define Midwest style?

Midwest style is the ultimate combination of preppy, fun, flirty and edgy. When you think of fashion, you automatically think East and West coast, but I think the Midwest has a lot to offer too. There are tons of fashionable men and women throughout the Midwest and I’ve seen a lot of people making a statement in their own way.

What is at the top of your wishlist this holiday season?

I am dying for a pair of Tory Burch riding boots!

What is one of the biggest trends you expect to be popular in the new year?

I think crop tops will be really huge in the new year. They started becoming pretty popular this year, but I think it is going to be something you will be seeing almost everyone wearing at some point next year.

What is one trend right now you think people should stay away from?

I always try to encourage people to try new things, rather than thinking people should stay away from trends. I think as long as something suits your body and you wear it confidently, you can pull anything off! Also, pairing trends with more classic items is almost always a recipe for style success.

What is your favorite piece of jewelry you own and why?

My favorite piece of jewelry is a Celtic ring from Ireland. It reminds me of the amazing time I had traveling throughout Europe and I haven’t taken it off in over five years.

What is your favorite piece from EvesAddiction.com right now?

These vintage champagne tear drop earrings are absolutely stunning. They would be the perfect addition to any party dress for the holidays!
