Sparkling Across America: Wisconsin

SAA-WisconsinBeauty and the Beard blogger Laura Podlich knows the Midwest is the place for her. So we thought she’d be the perfect source to give us insight into the fashionable side of Wisconsin. The Midwest has proved it is home to its fair share of fabulous style bloggers, and Beauty and the Beard is no different! We love Laura’s mix of stylish fashion and decor posts, as well as her delectable-looking recpies. Read on for the whole scoop (and a recipe, too!).

Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you begin blogging?

I started blogging a couple years ago I was living in Richmond, VA. My boyfriend and I had just moved there from the Midwest, so it was a way to show our friends & family back home what we were up to. Little by little I started to share more fashion, food, and DIY tips – which led the blog to be what it is today!

Where do you get your style inspiration?

Honestly, from a lot of my coworkers! I work at an apparel company, so I see so many designers & execs wearing fantastic trends. I try to take what I see and morph it into my own take. Other than that, a read a ridiculous amount of fashion blogs, and there’s never a lack of inspiration there!

What do you love most about living in Wisconsin?

The culture! Madison is such a fit city- people really appreciate the outdoors all year long, no matter the weather. Despite being only about 300,000 people in the city we have an amazing amount of fantastic food, concerts, and outdoor markets and events.

You lived in the South for a period of time before deciding it wasn’t for you. What was one thing you did like about Southern living?

How much history there is there! Richmond is such a fantastic town because it still has a lot of the old brick buildings from the Civil War era, as well as historical landmarks and museums. My boyfriend and I are history buffs so having all of that right at your fingertips made me feel so lucky to be there. Our loft apartment was over 100 years old with the most beautiful 2 story brick wall in it!

Do you notice any regional trends in Wisconsin that aren’t as prominent in other parts of the country?

Since we have wintry cold weather for a lot of the year, there’s a lot more layering going on. A lot of women here take things that don’t seem trendy like flannel & down vests and layer it out to be a super-sophisticated outfit!

What is your go-to fall accessory?

Scarves, hands down. I’m embarrassed to admit how large my collection of them is, but let’s just say I have enough to last through fall. I’m a huge fan of an accessory that is not only fashion-friendly, but also functional!

You have a ton of delicious-looking recipes on your blog. What’s your latest favorite?

Thanks! My latest favorite is actually a drink recipe- Orange Ginger Mojitos. They’re my go-to mixed drink because they’re super refreshing, and are fruity without being cloyingly sweet!

What’s one style trend you predict will be big in winter?

Sweaters with embellishments & elbow-patches (both of which I love!)

You have a lot of great hair tutorials. What is your favorite fall ‘do?

I haven’t done this tutorial yet, but I love the slightly-messy knotted ponytails. They’re so easy to do and look completely effortless. Plus they get your hair out of the way for your great fall scarves!

What is your favorite piece of jewelry you own and why?

My favorite piece is actually the simplest thing I own! It’s a tiny blue topaz ring my boyfriend gave me for an anniversary a couple years ago and I wear it daily- it goes with everything and has a lot of sentimental value.

What is your favorite piece from EvesAddiction.com right now?
