As she covers St. Louis Fashion Week, Rachael Powell of Style Every Day gave us the low-down on Midwestern style as seen in Missouri. Read on for Rachael’s style inspiration, color of the season, and more!
I’ve been interested in fashion and clothing for as long as I can remember. The idea that you can express so much about yourself simply by what you wear appealed to me at a young age. I began turning this interest into a blog in 2009. I was attending school at the University of Missouri (go Tigers!) and was stunned by how many ladies on campus spent their days in sweats. I was determined to look stylish and put together every single day. That idea translated into what Style Every Day is today – a go-to source for women looking for inspiration, tips and advice on how to look great for less, every day.
Describe your style in 3 words.
Classic. Eclectic. Bold.
Where do you get your fashion inspiration?
I love to read blogs and magazines to see what’s trending, but my biggest inspiration comes from people on the street. St. Louis is such a fashion-forward city in a lot of ways. I love to take ideas from edgy street wear and mix that with a classic twist.
You’re great at creating the look for less, and you love a good deal. What’s the best deal you’ve ever gotten?
What a tough question! My readers will often see me wearing a denim jacket throughout fall. I scored that for only $6 at a local Goodwill. It’s definitely been the best cost per wear of anything in my closet.
What is your favorite thing about living in Missouri?
Missouri has Midwestern values (appreciating family, faith and honest, hardworking people) mixed with the style of the coasts.
What’s the hottest hue for fall and what are you doing with it?
What is most important to you in a piece of jewelry?
I want my jewelry to make a statement. Accessories should add a wow factor to your outfit.
What is your favorite piece of jewelry you own?
I never go anywhere without my Kate Spade watch (a recent splurge!) and my rings. I love when people ask me about both because it gives me the chance to encourage people to shop high low. It’s OK to spend a little more on quality pieces and mix them with $3 rings from the thrift store.
What piece from EvesAddiction.com is on your wish list right now?
The rose gold infinity necklace is stunning!
