With this installment of the Sparkling Across America series, we’re heading back to the mainland and going down south to Mississippi to chat with Lindsay Jo Wilkinson of A Cup of Lindsay Jo. Lindsay Jo has mastered the art of balancing fashion and the dress code of the corporate world. As an attorney by day, her blog is her real creative outlet, and she has a great, classic Southern sense of style. So read on to find out more about her Southern style inspiration!
Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you begin blogging?
I am a bank and finance attorney by day. I am a very creative person, but my job doesn’t really provide any outlet for it. I started a blog to give me that escape!
Describe your style in 3 words.
1. Feminine, 2. Preppy, but still 3. Trendy
What is your favorite thing about Mississippi?
I love Sunday afternoon in small town Mississippi. I am originally from Louisiana and have also lived in Alabama. There’s just something different about it. It’s much more relaxed.
Is it difficult to combine your love for fashion with your job as an attorney?
At first, yes. I didn’t know how to create fun looks that also worked in the corporate world. However, I’ve learned to trade my jeans for fitted colored pencil skirts. Another trick of mine is to buy a stylish dress, but pair a cardigan or blazer over it for the office.
If you had to describe Southern style in one word, what would it be and why?
Balanced. In my opinion, so many trends and looks are blown out of proportion on the runway or in fashion magazine. Southern women do a great job at recognizing the latest trends, balancing them with the classics and everyday lifestyle.
Are there any regional trends near you that don’t seem to be as popular in the rest of the country?
Monograms. Southern girls will monogram anything they can get their hands on. I don’t mind it at all!
If you could vacation anywhere in the country, where would it be and why?
I’d love to go to the beach soon. Something about the water and sand is so therapeutic to me. I grew up going to the beaches in Florida, and I’d like to revisit soon. It’s an easy trip to make in the car and is less of a hassle.
What is the most important thing you look for in a piece of jewelry and why?
Sparkle – figuratively or literally. I love jewelry that glitters or is unique and stands out.
What is your favorite piece of jewelry you own?
My mother’s diamond ring. It is a marquise cut stone she had reset for me one Christmas. It’s something I can keep and wear forever.
What is the most prominent fall trend you predict seeing?
LEATHER! I was never a leather person, but I love the leather detailing I am seeing on dresses. It’s a very feminine take on such a rugged textile.
What is your favorite piece from EvesAddiction.com this fall?
That’s so hard – I don’t think I can narrow it down to one! I can always find something I want when I peruse through the celebrity jewelry tab. Right now, I am coveting the monogram, evil eye, and feather necklaces.
