Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you get into blogging?
I grew up in Traverse City, Michigan but spent a few years in San Francisco after college. While I have always loved writing and fashion I typically worked in tech, so I used blogging as my creative outlet. My time in the city taught me a lot about not only merging technology with fashion, but also street style. I returned to my hometown in 2011 and began K on the Bay as a photographic journal of places and people, but it turned into a fashion focused blog at the end of 2012. Blogging is one of my favorite hobbies- I have connected with so many amazing people and brands.
Describe your style in 3 words.
Classic, Feminine, Preppy
What do you love most about living in Michigan?
Northern Michigan is so beautiful- nothing makes me happier than a day by the bay or at the marina. It also has a lot of Midwestern charm; the people here are so friendly and typically very warm. Living in a vacation town is interesting, as people visit here for the weekend and are always sad to head home. I grew up on the water and could never see myself living in a place without it.
How does coastal living influence your style?
My blog tagline is “Casual Bay Style Meets City Chic,” which is a mix of sophisticated fashion with a preppy or nautical side to my looks. I try to incorporate wearable outfits that are appropriate for both day and night, but on a more classic side. I adore stripes and beachwear, but adding a city touch to my looks.
Are there any regional trends you notice that may not be as popular in other parts of the country?
People tend to dress very casual here. You see more denim and casual jackets here… I have tried to use my blog as an outlet to influence people that they CAN take risks despite living in such a casual place.
What is your go-to fall accessory?
It has typically been the scarf, but this year I have to go with my imitation leather jacket from H&M.
What is the hottest hue for fall and what are you doing with it?
I adore Cobalt blue! You can really add a color pop with a belt, scarf or bracelet. I also have a blue peplum dress that would be perfect to pair with black tights and a jacket for a fall look.
Do you have a preview of the hottest upcoming winter trends?
Prints, specifically tartan plaid, will be a winter trend- I’m excited to pull out some old scarves and jackets that I forgot about. I love when classic prints make a comeback! Oversized outerwear will also be hot for the winter.
What’s the most important thing you look for in a piece of jewelry?
I love classics, such as monograms and pearls. I look for quality over quantity, and despite the arm party trend, I am convinced that less is more. I’d rather wear one great piece than overpower it with many.
What is your favorite piece of jewelry you own and why?
I love my gold engraved “K on the Bay” necklace. It’s such a classic piece as well as a conversation starter!
What is your favorite piece from EvesAddiction.com right now?
The custom birthstone initial necklace– it’s so personal and I am proud to be a December baby!
