As if childbirth isn’t rewarding enough, a new phenomenon called the “push gift” is spreading quickly through delivery rooms across the country. The idea took root long ago in England and India, though the term “push present” didn’t surface until 1992. With the growing popularity of extravagant celebrity push gifts, more and more moms are receiving push presents to mark the special occasion of giving birth to their children.

What is a push present?
A push present (or a “push gift” or “baby bauble” as they are sometimes called) is a gift that a father presents to a mother shortly before or after giving birth. It’s not uncommon for push gifts to be given in the delivery room, either. The idea is to mark the special occasion in the mother’s life and reward her for her time spent during pregnancy and labor.
Push presents have been getting a lot of mixed reviews, some finding them to be a thoughtful keepsake every mother should be given, and some others finding them to be an extravagant and materialistic waste of money. But, like every extravagant trend that makes its rounds through Hollywood, celebs have caught on to push presents, and from there they have become somewhat standard fare for new mothers. A 2007 survey reported that 38% of new mothers received push gifts, while 55% wanted them.
The bling has varied amongst celebrity push presents, but jewelry remains the most popular choice for celebrity push gifts. What do you think? Are you going to ask for a push present of your own? Head to EvesAddiction.com to pick your own dream push gift!
